Early Life and Education
Ghazal Alagh was born on September 2, 1988, in Gurgaon, Haryana. She is the eldest of three siblings, born to Kamlesh and Sunita Sahni. She completed her primary and secondary education in Haryana before graduating with a degree in computer applications from Punjab University in 2010. In 2013, she pursued further education at the New York Academy of Art, specializing in modern art, applied arts, and figurative arts.
Career
Alagh began her professional journey in 2008 as a corporate trainer at NIIT, Chandigarh, where she provided training in software applications such as Oracle, SQL, and J2ME.
In 2012, she launched her first entrepreneurial venture, Dietexpert.com, an online platform offering customized diet plans based on age, lifestyle, weight, and fitness goals.
In 2016, Alagh co-founded Honasa Consumer Limited with her husband Varun Alagh. Honasa is the parent company of several natural beauty and personal care brands, including MamaEarth, Aqualogica, The Derma Co., and Ayuga. Under her leadership as co-founder and chief innovation officer, Honasa achieved unicorn status in 2022 and went public in November 2023.
Motivated by the need for safe, toxin-free products for their baby, the Alaghs launched MamaEarth in 2016. Starting with six products, including rash creams, lotions, shampoos, massage oils, body washes, and diapers, MamaEarth expanded to offer 500 products within five years. MamaEarth is Asia’s only MADE SAFE certified brand, emphasizing eco-friendly and affordable baby care products. In 2017, the company received investment from Shilpa Shetty.
Ghazal Alagh gained wider recognition as a judge on the Indian business reality show Shark Tank India in 2021.

Apart from her entrepreneurial ventures, Alagh is one of India’s top ten women artists, with her artwork exhibited both nationally and internationally.
