Etienne Uzac is an accomplished media entrepreneur with a global background, recognized for his extensive experience in both print and digital media. Born in Santiago, Chile, Etienne’s journey across continents shaped his broad worldview, taking him first to South Africa and then to France, where he completed his high school education at Lycée Stanislas Paris. He later attended The London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK, laying the foundation for his career in business and media. Eventually, Uzac moved to New York, where he co-founded International Business Times (IBT) in 2006.
Under his leadership, IBT quickly established itself as a leading digital media platform, offering in-depth global business news. The company expanded its portfolio over time, rebranding as IBT Media and introducing additional publications like Medical Daily, Latin Times, Player. One, and Fashion Times. However, one of the pivotal moments in Uzac’s career came in 2013 when IBT Media acquired Newsweek Magazine. Etienne was instrumental in this acquisition and led the effort to revitalize the iconic brand. By 2014, Newsweek had transitioned from an e-magazine to a full-fledged news website, and its print edition was relaunched. This transformation, coupled with strong editorial content, helped Newsweek achieve profitability by the end of that year.
During this period of growth, IBT developed proprietary technologies that provided a competitive advantage in digital publishing. These innovations, alongside the recruitment of top-tier journalists, helped the company earn numerous industry accolades, including six SABEWs, one Izzy, and three The Drum Online Media Awards.
In 2016, after a decade of driving IBT Media’s growth and success, Uzac stepped down from his CEO role to focus on personal ventures. However, his passion for media entrepreneurship brought him back in 2023, resuming the leadership role at IBT.
Throughout his career, Etienne has been committed to the values of quality journalism and global freedom, positioning IBT as a significant player in international news. The company continues to thrive, expanding its reach across multiple countries and languages, offering incisive business analysis and global news stories often overlooked by other outlets.
On the personal front, Etienne remains deeply connected to his family and church, finding balance in his busy life through swimming and exploring diverse cultures. His global perspective, innovative mindset, and dedication to the media industry have solidified his reputation as a forward-thinking leader in the digital media landscape.
